My Episode Review on Tales from the Resistance: Back to the 2nd Dimension

Today, for my 65th episode review, and for the second installment of this year's "Thanksgiving Treat", I'm gonna give you guys my take of Phineas and Ferb's "Tales From the Resistance: Back to the 2nd Dimension".

Here's the rundown of this television sequel:

Two months since the fall of Heinz Doofenshmirtz, the citizens of 2nd Dimension Danville are still slowly recovering from the dictator's tyrannical reign. However, when an army of animal cyborgs attacks, the heroes of the dimension must take another stand once more to combat this new foe.

In all honesty, I've frequently considered making an analysis of this "Phineas and Ferb" episode for a long time. When I saw it while watching the whole series, though, I changed my mind and canceled the notion because the format was like a regular episode of the show.

Of course, my mind frequently wondered back to the prospect in later years, so I decided to go ahead and make my analysis of Tales from the Resistance anyway. In preparation, I watched this episode special three times to ensure that this review was as in-depth as possible.

So, what do I think of this television sequel to "Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension"?

Well, I really can't lie when I say that this episode special really rocked the house. The biggest reason for why is because everything about it was well-done fan service at its finest.

For instance, the direction by Robert F. Hughes and Russell Calabrese, the story by Jim Bernstein, and the writing by Joshua Pruett, Mike Bell, Kyle Menke, and Michael Diedrich were awesome.

Whether many "Phineas and Ferb" fans had been asking for a sequel to "Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension" is something I don't know, but the episode team did a brilliant job providing just that. They expanded on the climax's aftermaths for the 2nd Dimension incredibly well, provided a neat continuation for the characters, and they gave some nicely-done expansion. Plus, it's hard to deny how irresistibly funny the humor was, and the story tied together like a neatly made knot. It kept itself from being predictable and boring, that's for sure.

Likewise, the animation was amazing.

Even if the overall quality was no different from the rest of the show, the animators brought this episode to life flawlessly. The best part was that they managed to capture the visualization of the 2nd Dimension while also working within budget of the show, and they didn't restrain themselves from being creative either.

The music by Danny Jacob was marvelous as well.

I loved how Jacob retained the cinematic quality of the film while adding something fresh in the mix, particularly for the action sequences and suspenseful moments. The songs made for the episode, "Playing a Game of Sports" and "All the Convoluted Reasons We Pretend to be Divorced" were also very fun to listen to. Regardless of them not being featured on any "Phineas and Ferb" soundtrack albums, all two of the aforementioned songs had bouncy melodies and lyrics that made them too irresistible to ignore.

Finally, the voice acting, characters, and character development were fantastic.

Every performer sounded like they were having a great time portraying their parts, and they made any piece of dialogue they had into a fun and memorable quote. Playing the 2nd Dimension versions of their characters also have the cast members an opportunity to stretch themselves creatively, giving portrayals that are similar in sound but different in personality and tone.

In my opinion, the best vocal performance came from Ashley Tisdale as 2nd Dimension Candace, and the character herself was the one whom I believe developed the most. Plus, Dan Povenmire and Allison Janet were instant scene-stealers with their portrayals of 2nd Dimension Heinz and Charlene Doofenshmirtz.

In conclusion "Tales from the Resistance: Back to the 2nd Dimension" is a terrific "Phineas and Ferb" special. It spectacularly succeeds its film predecessor with style, and it has all the qualifications needed to be enjoyable and worthwhile.

So, I rate "Tales From the Resistance: Back to the 2nd Dimension" five out of five stars.

To Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh: I know it's been nearly 8 years since this episode was released, but...I deeply hope you guys can make a TV show or film sequel to it. The ending of this one left me wanting to see what could happen next with the characters, and I see quite a lot of potential for a sequel to it.
