Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) Trailer Review

This is another trailer that I saw not too long ago that I couldn't resist expressing my thoughts on.

First things first, check it out for yourselves:

Now, onto my thoughts:

Before anyone asks, yes, I did see the first trailer for this movie, where the design for Sonic was what many have called 'hideous' and that the trailer as a whole was 'cringy'. I even agree wholly on it, particularly because it made me less than excited and interested in this movie.

With this trailer, though...

This one got me even more piqued with interest for this movie.

I love that the special effects team took the time to change Sonic's design, and it's not only more faithful to the game the film is based on...it's appealing too! The eyes and facial expressions of the character were the parts that I couldn't help but admire the most.

Likewise, Jim Carrey looked like he was having a lot of fun playing Doctor Robotnik. At first glance, some may think he's an unusual choice for the part. However, it looks like he's going to be providing something that is extremely entertaining in his portrayal of the character, with his comedic-chops and abilities as an actor not put on a leash. My favorite part was when Carrey was doing that hilarious dance before his employee offers him coffee.

Finally, the overall execution of the trailer was really excellent. Unlike the other trailer, the humor that was shown was hilarious to see, and the sense of fun the trailer was showcasing made me go from less-than-interested to intrigued. I also enjoyed the song choice of "Blitzkreig Bop", as it helped add into the fun the film likely has in store for all of us.

So, do I think this film is worth a look now that Paramount changed Sonic's design?

Sure, why not?

And not just because of the re-design of Sonic and the involvement of Jim Carrey either.
